[Rhodes22-list] The $40.00 rhodes mast lifting device (standard mains only)

Dave,

I replaced my standard sheet line with an old main halyard (approx 55') just
to be sure I had enough line when the mast was in the down position. The
forces that act on the boom compress it as though you were trying to squeeze
the boom shorter. That is the reason for the PVC tee. the boom is attached
to the mast just like you were going sailing. The tee holds that assembly
rigid under pressure. I did not see any serious issues regarding mast/boom
bending during the lift. The Admiral has moderate/serious carpal tunnel if
she can raise the mast with this arrangement any 10 yr old or so would have
the strength to raise the mast with this set up.
