What type of in line filter do people like to use?  Is this a simple thing to attach to the hose that runs from the gas tank to the outboard?

I am trading in my 2001 R22, which has a Yamaha 9.9.  It works fine, and Stan
doesn't add any trade-in value for motors and suggests that I keep it for my
new R22 that I have ordered.  I may do this, at least for a while.  But I
have always wanted a lighter engine, but one that I could still integrate
with Stan's linkage system between the tiller and motor.  Stan these days is
offering to install the vertical pin on the cowl top to new owners who buy
their motors locally.

Does anyone have suggestions as to lighter gasoline motors that are
electric-start?

How about the Torqeedo Cruise 2.0 or 4.0 electric motor?  Does anyone have
any experience with those on an R22?  I don't know how the Torqeedo linkage
arm and remote control panel would work with Stan's setup.  The Torqeedo
looks nice and would be more quiet, but it would mean extra batteries
(magnesium lithium would be much lighter than the normal marine batteries).  

Also, I don't know much about the chargers for the batteries used with
electric motors, and it's probably not good to leave the batteries charging
for a week or two while I am away from the boat.  It seems that a timer or
cut-off to no more than a trickle charge equivalent to a solar panel would
be needed.

As an aside, ever since we switched over to having to use ethanol gasoline,
I have found it necessary to install an in-line filter to keep the water and
gunk that settles out of the ethanol from gumming up my carburetor.  This
will be true for all gas engines.
