I'm guessing that you have the back stays attached. Undo them and then  
attach the forestay and then attach the rear stays.

After raising the mast, you should have only the six  side stays secured (2 
outers, 2 forward lowers & 2 aft lowers).   At this point, I attach the 
bowstay, fixing the furling jib in  place.  Next, the rear stays are 
attached 
(usually third hole from  bottom on the adjuster) and finally they are 
tensioned.
