Hi Mary Lou,
My computer recently survived a beer bath...although it could have
easily been an inexpensive Malbec. It is a Dell lap top and I
immedaiately turned it upside down and let the full 16 ounces flow out
over the table and floor of the hotel bar. I went on line and learned
that you can "easily" pop out the key board and replace it. I cleaned
the key board with water soaked cotton swabs. Mine booted up and
continues to run although on high humidity days in Georgia the mmmmmmm
sticks. Just to let you know that it is not always fatal. I am in
Sante Fe New Mexico for a few months (in an attempt to keyboard without
the m sticking). My thoughts and good wishes go out to the East Coast
Rhodies for a quick recovery. Joe Riley

We still have no power but looking at what's been cleared on the
outage map I'm hoping it won't be as long as Wed. at 11pm (the time
Delmarva Power has assigned for restoration of all outages). No power
for us also means no water and no sewer (public sewer that runs on
pumps - the main lines are on generators but the individual lines to
houses are not).

However, (grumble) last night Fred snagged his wine glass on one of
the many extension cords from the portable generator that we have
running everywhere. In the dim light, he thought he'd just spilled a
few drops. This morning his laptop smells like wine and won't boot.
Actually it booted once so that's probably worse. We've got it apart
and drying but I don't hold too much hope. It's an old XP machine and
we were going to replace both his and mine (almost identical
machines) towards the end of the year.

Fortunately all his files were backed up. Unfortunately he had access
set up to some specialized things financial, MLB etc. and used an old
version of Filemaker which we'll probably need to install on my
computer to get to his files. In the scheme of things it's not a big
deal except for the aggravation factor which is running pretty high.

Repeat after me - it's not the house, it's not the boat, it's not
life or limb. Just hours and hours and hours of my time. Sigh.

Best to all,
Mary Lou
