Happy Christmas rightbackatya  Rummy. Too much water?  Offset by use of a more creative mixer for the rum.  Maybe this is "your" lump of coal in the stocking.  Have you been bad this year?  Here's a present for every adamant sailor: a poem.

 The Year of Sailing

In the sheltered
marina, calm 
lake waters
rose 
and fell
with upstream rains.
 
Twenty feet
at the water
line
twenty-two
topside:
she was designed—
not
to simply
convey— but connect
her captain
to the spinning
earth: swells
and wakes.
Westerly
wind delivered
one long
tack toward the dam.
Starboard genny
shroud
tight.  Port
line slack,
but ready
for the turn
about 
turn for
home.
Switch
sides shift
ballast
for the best
heel.
 
Otherwise
occupied 
the earth
didn’t even notice 
me there.
But for that
one
year, one
breath,
we were the
same
