Kathy,

Please know that it is my BF who is the horse/dog rehabilitator. He came up on a farm & just has a sense with animals. Jackie and Boney (well, Beaureguard now....like the Civil War General...with the big, um, 'cannon'...HA...I DIDN'T name him....;^) Animals just respond to him like I have never before seen.....
Many thanks for your comments...yours plus Marc's seem to have turned the tide & BF has agreed to consult with a DO after we are over this acute phase of the back issue. This is just another iteration of the same back problem he has had for 30 years, after he broke his back. Usually the acute phase is over within three or four days..this is HIGHLY unusual...and got his attention.
many many thanks to all..
elle

Elle,
What a touching story about your dogs and horses! I had to look at the original photo to be sure it was the same horse in the second photo. Good work.

As for the BF....I always think of a DO (have worked with several) as an MD with common sense. But your trip to see the pain clinic is probably a wise first step. Most people don't realize the scope of an anesthesiologist's knowledge and practice. I retired 2 yrs before Jim died, but at the time worked as a nurse practitioner for the department of Anesthesia at Cinci's children's hosp. The scope of what the team did was amazing. And all of us, from the NPs, nurse anesthetists, DOs, and MDs, all assessed and contributed to the patients comfort and well being. Having all those levels of input was a good balance of care. But!!! do your own research, just like you did with Jackie, and ask questions!

Hope everyone gets feeling better,

Kathy
