[Rhodes22-list] 1984 for sale - Question from prospective buyer

I tend to sail in all sorts of conditions including heavy wind and seas. Twenty knots is a lot of wind for a relatively small boat especially one without a fixed keel. The Rhodes 22 is over designed and the quality of construction better than a lot of other boats so it is very sound and will stand up to pretty severe conditions. Personally I think 15 knots is about the limit for any sort of reasonable comfort for a boat our size however it is still sound in even more punishing conditions. I sail on the Chesapeake bay and the seas start rising along with the wind when it starts blowing over 10-15kts. Our boats are a bit more tender than a heavy fixed keel boat in these conditions. I prefer the shoal draft rewards for exploration and light weight speed in light winds over a heavy keel boat. Running before the wind with a heavy sea state can be a lot of fun. I did this surfing the waves while sailing my boat the Annappolis boat show making the trip in record time surfing in the 7-8 kt range.

All
I have had a prospective buyer looking at the boat and he intends to do a fair bit of sailing in 20 kt winds.
He is concerned about the ability of the boat to deal with these stresses. While I realize (and so does he) that a large part of this equation is dealing with the soundness of a particular boat. My question for the group (especially the part of you that sail in 20 kt winds regular, personally, I am not that brave) is "How well does a Rhodes hold up to these strresses? and Do you believe that Stan's construction standards offer an advantage for this kind of sailing?"

All comments welcome
