[Rhodes22-list] What Size Outboard?

Caesar,

Reality can be a strange beast. The good folks in Buffalo get a surge of
water when the level drops here. Since the prevailing wind is westerly,
typically the water 'drains' from the west end - although the surge can
happen the other way around. On a few occasions, a reverse surge has been
great enough to cause the Detroit River to flow backwards briefly, from Lake
Erie up into Lake Saint Claire. I'm on an island in the mouth of the river,
and years ago berms (small levees) were built to protect the island from
flooding during those reverse surges. The water can't leave the lake except
at Niagara Falls (other major water losses include evaporation, making ice
for rum & Coke, etc ;-)

Every year the water level in Lake Erie experiences a 'seasonal tide' as
well, dropping at the west end of the lake in October / November and
returning in March / April. Check out
http://www.lre.usace.army.mil/greatlakes/hh/greatlakeswaterlevels/waterlevel
forecasts/monthlybulletinofgreatlakeswaterlevels/ for more information on
seasonal variations in water levels in any of the Great Lakes' water levels.

Amazing!  This happened on a lake without ocean and tidal currents?  How did
that happen?  Where did the water go?
