Dennis,
With the open layout, you do sacrifice the sink/countertop/icebox area.  One downside to this arrangement.  But we didn't use the sink and we didn't have an icebox (just use coolers).  Our countertop mostly collects stuff, but I expect we'll miss it.  Our icebox area was replaced by drawers, which we will miss, but there is some storage below the bench seating which does go around the entire cabin.  And yes, the seating has been extended up to the V berth.  There is a porta potti area, which is up against the V berth on the starboard side.  Not much privacy with the bulkhead gone though.  What I like about it is the area between the seating fills in and the entire cabin turns into a large berth.  We had yet to overnight on our boat, mostly because of the berth arrangement.  We plan to overnight much more on this boat, especially once I get the pop top enclosure installed.  I expect on overnights the porta potti will go in the cockpit and any food prep and cooler storage will also be in the cockpit. - rob

Thanks for the great photos of the interior.  I really like the compression
post option which opens up some more layout choices.  Is there any
countertop and toilet area, ice box, sink?  It appears that the bench
seating is on both sides up to the v berth?

While you're rebuilding the interior of you boat, thought I through you a
couple of interior shots of my (new) boat.  Never seen the interior done
this way before.  They took out the bulkhead and replaced the compression
post with a pole and wrapped the settee around the interior.  Just something
to consider. - rob

That is a great history of Rhodes experience and adventure.  I just picked
up a Rhodes22 project  boat last month and I do not know any of the history
of it.  Is there a way to ;put together the history and learn who owned it
and what happened to it?  My boat was owned by a real nice lady who bought
it as a project boat also.  It has all necessary external equipment except
for the wire traveler.  The entire cabin is missing except for the v berth
and the electric panel and the concrete ballast.  People on this chat have
been remarkable sharing information about the stringer and the floor and
some other interior details that I will rebuild the cabin from. She bought
it 2 years ago from another lady who was going to restore it.  It hung from
a beam in a barn for a time?  The 2 ladies never met a friend of the lady
sold it to the previous owner so the history of previous owners is lost to
me.  I believe it is a 1974.   Also the never ending adventures keeps me
fired up and excited about completing the project.  I live a large lake in
Maine and I am about 30 miles from Portland Maine.  So the coast of Maine
and Sebago Lake can be explored and enjoyed from the boat next year.

I had been sailing for about 10 years. I sailed 6 years all over Italy and
Greece on an open cockpit 18 Lightning and the rest on the Chesapeake.  When
my wife and I got married in Annapolis 38 years ago we took all the "wedding
money" and invested it in a small new 13' O'day widgeon.  We kept it for a
couple of years always going to the boat show (we lived one creek over on
Back Creek talking to Stan and Rose (those crazy kids back then), and
finally bought a brand new 1976 Rhodes Continental 22 for $5,000.  I knew
small boats and I knew what I wanted at it was the Rhodes.  I kept that boat
for almost 20 years, raising my son on it even before he could walk.   Our
family sailed every where on the Chesapeake and to the Bahamas.  I moved out
to the west coast and had to sell it. (I still wonder where it is).  A
couple of boatless years and my wife ordered me to get a Rhodes 22,
regardless of price, as long as it was not over 3K.  Stan did not have any
like that but long story short I picked up a project boat in Baltimore and
brought it back to Oregon.  The boat was less than 3K (uh the trailer and
truck did bring up the outlay some but I kept the cost of the boat as agreed
upon).  The Sacramento Delta, Baha, the San Juans several times and
Desolation sound all courtesy of my Rhodes.  Over all these years we could
have easily "upgraded" to a larger boat.  Neither of us had any desire.  We
will be retiring in a couple of years and plan to live on a 38' catamaran.
Alice is trying to figure out if a Rhodes is just a large dingy we can tow
behind the boat. Regardless, I will keep my Rhodes until I die and they can
burry me in it.
