[Rhodes22-list] Major Electrical Problems

Good to hear from you, Chris. I'll be most grateful for the sketch if you find it. I've found navigating the List archive difficult, but (as with electronics) maybe this development will force me to learn. I used to say I wanted a sailboat so I'd keep learning. Hope you're having a good 4th.

Peter:

A couple of years ago I had a marine electrician take a look at my boat and add a battery charger and tiller pilot. During this exercise I tried to create a sketch to map out all of the electronics. Each boat is a bit different however the basic concept is similar. I will try to find my sketch and send it to you. You might also find it in a previous post. Good luck. I have a hard time understanding all of the electronic issues and definitely benefited from an experienced marine electrician.

Rummy & Mary Lou--

Thanks to you both for the very prompt replies. Rummy's analysis makes sense to me, too, and I've read about such lightning-caused damage (though I didn't remember I had). I hope you're right about the insurance coverage. This is one hell of a way to come up with a wiring diagram!

I'm off to a bar this afternoon. Or rather, friends and I are off to St.Pete to a production of "Cabaret" where the theater has been set up as a cabaret. I can use a drink--no, make that plural.

I know nothing about electricity but Rummy's
analysis sounds good. I don't believe anything
but lightning could cause the kind of damage you
are describing. Several of our friends have had
similar issues & most have had good experiences
with their insurance companies with it. The
repairs will take a while but if you document
them, You will have your wiring diagram.

Good luck!
