Lee;

I'm having a little trouble picturing your collision in my mind's eye. You
were on a starboard tack (close hauled?) and he was what??...on a port tack
approaching from your port bow?? or from your port beam?? or coming almost
straight at you running free with the wind on his port quarter?? or
something else??...Sorry I'm so dense, but can you describe it in more
detail.

I am also curious about what the heck he said? You can leave out the
expletives.

Your experience reminds me of the old navy watch stander bromide, " Standing
watch is hours of boredom punctuated by moments of stark terror."

Happy no one was hurt.
