Greetings all,

I would like to open a discussion on a "different" type of Rhodes 22, the
"Rhodes Club Racer", or RCR.

I currently have two R22's, and have been a R22 owner for about 9 years.

I have great respect for Stan and his product. As I have told Stan in the
past, however, I believe there is a market that he is missing. Make no
mistake, the RCR is not the type of boat that will ever compete with a J22,
or similar boats. It would probably be better to characterize the RCR as a
sport boat.

Anyway, what is the RCR? I have a full batten main sail with lugs, and
three hank-on jibs. I moved the traveler to the cockpit. I have still have
the backstay adjuster. She can easily be sailed single handed - I was out
with gust to 20 knots the other day. She's fun, lively, and a hoot to sail.
She points better, can sail in lots of different conditions. No need to
talk about adding ballast, or 10 hp motors. I sail with a 6 hp, and that's
plenty power.

The R22 is a great looking boat on the water; she can perform in all sorts
of weather with a crew or without. Phillip Rhodes was a genius. She's
priced much, much lower that an Alerion 28, but who would really be the
pretty girl at the dance? OK, A28's are very pretty, but can you trailer
her?

So, to all the traditionalist out there, more power to you. But, I do
think there is another aspect to this boat that needs to developed...

Cheers, Dean
