[Rhodes22-list] Winter storage

I use a 40' x 20' blue tarp. I have tried the more expensive (and heavier)
grey tarps but they all seem to only last one year. I got a blue tarp @
Defender in CT for $35 which is a great price. I built an A frame from 1
1/2" PVC pipe to create enough pitch to shed snow and rain but have found
that with the mast on the mast raising crutch (and the life lines dropped to
the deck) I have enough pitch for all but the very wet, heavy snow. Since I
store in my yard, it is very convenient to give the tarp a shake if the wet
snow sticks and it sheds immediately. Lots of bungee cords to the trailer
hold it in place. The stern is set up so I can unwrap & open it and climb
up the swim ladder to hang out or do interior winter projects. The tarps
have always survived the winter winds.

I use a 30' long blue tarp available at Home Depot or the hardware store.
Use lots of lines to tie down and it holds up to winter gales blowing
across frozen Lake Erie. Since my whole boat is painted, I build a PVC
pipe frame around the gunwale to keep the tarp from touching.
