Graham
I hope the following pictures of the traveler I designed and built over 10
yrs ago. It still serves me well. If you are interested I can provide you
with the easy, step by step instructions to install. It is of course
completely independent of the backstays.... applying no pressure to the
mast/forestay what so ever.

I would be interested in details/pictures on the traveller arrangement as
well - especially if it is not available to purchase for older boats (74) .
The idea of getting the traveller up high sounds great but it is unclear to
me whether the traveller is held by the backstays alone. Would that not be a
rather unstable platform and would the forces on the backstays not be
excessive? Perhaps I don't understand how it works.

Over the years I have seen some posts with redesigned travelers. I believe
someone (maybe more) fastened a slide and car to the back stay spreader bar.
I would love to see a picture and a description of what to do and what not
to do. I assume the angle of the bar to the pressure from the main/boom is
an issue as well as the size of the equipment.
