[Rhodes22-list] How to lock rudder pintles?

The rudder should have a release of some kind that should allow it to kick up if you hit something.  I think what Steve is looking for is something to keep the rudder from accidently coming out of the gudgeons (hopefully, an unlikely event).  Steve, I used a small hose clamp around my pintle as a safety measure. - rob

Your rudder should be tethered to the boat and secured in such a way that it will pop off the pintle should you have a hard grounding.
Better the rudder pop-off than the transom get damaged.
