[Rhodes22-list] Depth gage or what?

Rob--

I have an Airmar in-hull, adjustable angle transducer (didn't want unnecessary holes in the hull). It was installed at the factory when Aeolia in 2011. Following Airmar's detailed location instructions, I thought it should be forward of the keel/centerboard, but Stan said that's not possible on the Rhodes due to hull shape. I'm still not 100% convinced--I thought "since this unit is 'adjustable angle,' couldn't it go forward & to port or starboard of the centerline?" But Stan's the expert, so I'm 97.5% convinced: it just isn't adjustable enough.

In short, my Airmar is in the laz, where the hull is most flat & where it works pretty well--now. For a long time I couldn't get readings or graphics that told me anything useful. Turns out the transducer had to be filled with 2.4 oz of propylene glycol antifreeze but was empty.

Let us know what you decide!

It was the B&G Network Quad. Here is the manual for the display unit:
http://www.tinleyelectronics.com/bandg/network_quad_usermanual.pdf . I can't
find information on the sending units and installation but it must be out
there somewhere in googleland.

Graham,
Thanks for the info. What unit did you get for your boat? - rob

Rob:
The first picture is a depth finder and the last looks like the casing for a
speed impeller although it might be for the depth finder too. But the fact
that there are two holes in the bottom suggests that both the depth and
speed were installed. In my case they came together in one kit. If you don't
have the rest of the electronics I doubt that it would be worth getting the
remainder of the parts. It would be easier to get new units than it would be
to fill the holes but that depends on there the holes are located. It looks
to me like they might be in the lazarette and I suspect that is not the best
place to locate them. I put mine under the floor up in front of the mast
where the bottom of the boat is at its deepest and has the least turbulence
and they seem to work well there.

I've got this device in my laz and have no idea what it is. I'm guessing
it's the sensor for a depth gage, but there is no depth gage on the boat.

First photo shows a device next to its mounting well (I assume). Second
photo a second device also found in the laz. Third photo shows bottom of
boat where mounting well is located. And lastly, the fourth photo shows a
loose piece that I found in the laz. Appears to be something that would fit
into the well, the while part is threaded and screws onto something else.
Thoughts? Thanks - rob
