Rob: How about the "safety unit?"  It is a red catch that slips into the starting switch area.  If it is not in place, the motor will not start. It is designed so that it is supposed to be attached to your body so if you fall overboard with the engine running, it kills the engine.

If the engine has been sitting, there is always a chance that the carb is gummed up as well.  I fog pretty good but I have had one time when that did not do it as the carb was gummed.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Got launched, but...

Well, got my boat in the water OK, but, then, the motor refused to start.  I've got the Yamaha 9.9 with electric start.  Hit the start button, and the solenoid and starter motor would kick in as they should.  But then it would stop.  It felt like the motor was in gear, which should prevent it from trying to start at all.  I'm guessing it's the mechanism that prevents the motor from starting when it's in gear.  I never really felt like I got the motor in neutral.  Anyone dealt with this before?  Thanks - rob
