[Rhodes22-list] Center Board leak

Back in the early 80's when I had an 81 Rhodes, I replaced the centerboard trunk gasket.  I went to a glass shop and used the black ribbon caulking used for installing an automotive windshield.  It never leaked while I owned the boat, but I have no idea if a future owner ever got it apart again.

Now that I am older, possibly just a smidgeon wiser, and have a 2003  Rhodes with a certificate of support, I would go by whatever Stan says.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I spoke to Stan and his advice is firstly make sure the case and cap
surfaces are super smooth and have no blemishes. If they do then you will
need resurface with a gel coat.

Gasket needs to be 3/16th and clean. When screwing down the cap, you need
to start from the centre and work your way outward.  Do not be tempted to
screw in too tight as this will cause ripples on the GRP flange and create
leaks.

So here goes again....I have ripped up my beautiful carpet and floor
boards, undone about a thousand screws and discovered i do have a blemish
on the cap that will need a gel coat resurface.

BTW Has anyone used soft foam Neoprene for a gasket?
