[Rhodes22-list] Center Board leak

Starting in the center and working out toward the ends lets the gasket sort of flow, pushing any ripples out and off the end. This also helps by not force warping the cap.

Imagine if the guy who installed your carpet tacked the ends along the wall and pulled the carpet tight toward the center of the room. When you move the sofa to vacuum, the carpet would wave up in front of it and you would have ripples all over the room. The same concept sort of applies with the gasket. You could create and trap ripples in between two or more of the bolts if you tightened them in random order.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I spoke to Stan and his advice is firstly make sure the case and cap
surfaces are super smooth and have no blemishes. If they do then you will
need resurface with a gel coat.

Gasket needs to be 3/16th and clean. When screwing down the cap, you need to
start from the centre and work your way outward. Do not be tempted to screw
in too tight as this will cause ripples on the GRP flange and create leaks.

So here goes again....I have ripped up my beautiful carpet and floor boards,
undone about a thousand screws and discovered i do have a blemish on the cap
that will need a gel coat resurface.

BTW Has anyone used soft foam Neoprene for a gasket?
