Chris,

I installed Tohatsu's "Elephant Ear" high-thrust prop, 8.4" dia/6" pitch, on
our Tohatsu 6 HP 4 stroke, replacing the standard 7.7" dia/8" pitch prop. I
didn't notice much difference in performance other than, perhaps, an
increase in boat vibration. I reinstalled the standard prop.

We have, however, a set of "Power Thruster" stainless steel ears on the
motor, which I installed mostly to prevent the rudder from being sucked into
the spinning prop when I inevitably drop the tiller at an inopportune time.
They work well, and we may already be getting any advantages of the
high-thrust prop. (If you Google "Power Thruster, you'll get a few
non-nautical responses.")

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] HIGH THRUST PROP?

Was just reading about propeller selection and the advantages of using a
high thrust prop. Said low pitch, and larger blade provided more thrust at
slow and high speed, less prop walk due to lower pitch, and better reverse
handling. Anyone with experience with this issue? I currently am using a 6
hp, 4 stroke, Mercury with a standard 3 blade, medium pitch, narrow blade
prop. Is it worth switching to maybe 4 blade or 3 blade, high thrust model?
Appreciate your advice.
