Perfect - other than the $500 price tag. I think that would make everything
else on my boat look cheap.
I found the description and picture of the sink trap and thru hull used for
boat wiring here :

id=493&Itemid=249 . What I saw on the Lagoon was stainless and clearly
designed for the purpose. I would like to find it - hopefully for a tad less
than $500.

I used to use something called a Mushroom vent while doing roofs for passing
wires into a house from an antenna or some other electrical device mounted
high up away from the edge. The worked great and didn't allow water to
enter. I'm sure they would work almost equally as well for a boat and I
found these that were meant specifically for boats.

The other thing is they make the p-trap in a white pvc as well and you could
cut the threaded ends off to make it have a nice neat appearance, epoxy that
to the hull and then after you pass your wires through, you could something
squishy in the externally exposed hole to better block out any water that
might try and enter.

Have fun,

James

While chartering a Lagoon 44' in November I noticed that the wiring from the
mast went through an inverted J fitting on the deck. I would not be
absolutely water tight under circumstances where a wave came right over the
deck, which has never happened to me, but it avoided the problem of trying
to seal the hole in the deck where wires protrude. I have searched for
something similar but the only example that I found online was where a
fellow made one using a chromed plumbing P trap attached to a thru hull. I
am sure it works but was very utilitarian. If anyone has seen such hardware
I would be interested to know where they saw it. It was a very clean
installation and the wires could be removed any time.

While we're on the subject, the connections at my mast base are iffy at
best, working every other year. I want to now go thru deck with a four-wire
connector and neither Defender nor West Marine have a recommendation. I went
to Blue Seas & a few other sources, but struck out so far.

Has anyone come across a suitable waterproof type?
