[Rhodes22-list] Major Problem Minor Repair

Hi Chris:
Yes, this is a major task. There is no part of the boat that is not being
redone - including deck core, painting, total interior rebuild and so on.
The rudder and centreboard repair is amongst the easiest tasks as I can do
that in my basement during the winter and work from a comfortable position.
The task that worries me most is having to repair large cracks that go along
side the centreboard slot in the bottom of the keel. Filling the crack with
epoxy will not likely be all that difficult but I worry about what caused
the cracks in the first place and whether just filling them will be anything
more than a temporary fix. I have built a huge boat lift that I intend to
use to lift the boat up about 6' so I can work under it this summer. I might
also try drilling into the keel from the bilge to see if I can locate any
voids and then fill with epoxy if I do. So far I haven't found anyone who
has addressed a problem like this so I guess I will have to make it up as I
go.

Everything around here is still frozen solid - including the lake and we
have about a foot of snow in most places but the temperature has just
started to inch above freezing during the day so it is beginning to recede.
What a winter! You must be in a northern area as well. It makes me so
depressed to hear others talking about launching their boats in 60 degree
weather. Have they no sensitivity at all?

Graham

Sounds quite ambitious...wow... So if my math is correct, your boat is a 79.
Is it a Continental? Or the IMF version? Sounds like you're gonna have a
great boat when you are finished... Well, a greater boat...already have a
great boat. Did you purchase it new?
Here's to progress... Currently 2" snowfall today, and think I saw blizzard
conditions for your area coming.... Ug! Warm weather coming here rest of
week. Boat and bike days ahead.
