I have the Yamaha high thrust, and I believe that it is geared differently and runs at a lower rpm than the regular outboards. In other words, it is designed for force instead of speed. It also has a rather large 4 blade prop with a more steep pitched blades. Lots of Rhodes run fine with the non-high thrust motors so it probably doesn't make much difference unless you are having to fight strong headwinds and waves. I have been in some pretty gnarly weather and the high thrust handled it with no problem at all.

Hello John,

Not sure about your high thrust question, but I have a the Tohasu 8 hp unit
very similar to the one in Ted's photo. I also have Stan's adjustable motor
mount. Will your new Rhodes have the tiller control attached to the motor?
I don't have that feature and find even with the long shaft of the Tohatsu
it is still difficult to steer with the motor down far enough in the water,
as the motor's tiller handle is up at a very steep angle. Has anyone added
Stan's tiller control after the fact. Ted I would love to see a photo of
how your tiller control mounts.
Thanks
Bill
