If you are going with a bilge pump you can get a cheap in line check valve at Home Depot or Lowe or any plumbing supply store. It can help control a few potential problems, such as  when water runs back in the hose and the pump endlessly cycles, it prevents back flow if you are heeled way over and god forbid if it partially sinks at a anchorage or marina for some reason  you may only have to pump out a flooded hull not lift a  sunken hull. It is the best 10 dollars you will ever spend on a part that you never know when it was doing its job.
