After all the years this boat has been in production, I'm sure lots of sailors have figured out how to do this.  But I never saw it done.  I wanted to use a vang, but putting a bail (like the one bolted to the boom in the picture) at the foot of the mast would prevent the pop top from rising.  The following is my humble contribution.  Two short 2" wide straps with a D-ring at one end and a SS grommet to fit the tabernacle bolt at the other end.  To employ the vang (only with the pop top down) connect the snap shackle of the vang to both the D-rings.  To disengage the vang, and raise the pop top, just open the snap shackle and the two straps fall aside to allow the top to rise.  Now I no longer worry about the back stay catching the boom end in an unexpected jibe, and can flatten the main at reaching angles where the traveler no longer pulls the boom down.  For those of you who aren't familiar with a boom vang, it can also be used to flatten the sail, and can also be attached to a point forward of the aft lowers ( I use the attachment points supplied on the coach roof rails) as a "preventer" to keep the boom in place when running before the wind.
