Thanks to Rummy for bearing with me despite his meds, and thanks to Mary Lou
for the link (and not bursting my bubble ;-)

I found the bit in the manual about first tensioning the backstays (and
forestay) with the adjuster line:
"Make this line good and hand tight"
... the bit about next tightening the shrouds:
"Hand tighten. Do not use tools ... beware of experts. Use your own
common sense."
... and the final bit about the lower stays:
"Take out their slack to give you a straight mast, port to starboard
and bow to stern."

So I just need to be sure I don't slip into Neanderthal mode while
tensioning the rig, and be sure the mast is vertical when it's finally
secured. No problem.

If you go to the Rhodes owners site (http://www.rhodes22.org) and the
document library page (http://www.rhodes22.org/doclib/) on that site, there
are several versions of the R22 owners' manual available there.
In the 1988 manual, "Tuning the Rig" starts on page 7
(http://www.rhodes22.org/doclib/Rhodes22-1988-Owners-Raven.pdf)

Dennis, you got one of the numbers right. ;-)
