Jose:

I installed pvc shroud covers to help protect my lines and sail however the 175 is a large sail that can usually be coaxed to the opposite tack by releasing the sheet at the right time as you come about and letting the wind help make the transition. In light breeze I sometimes just using the roller furling to pull the sail in about half way and then let it back out when on the new tack. Having moved my boat from the Chesapeake Bay to the Potomac River I am using the small 130 Genoa instead of the 175 that is a bit more manageable.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] shroud covers

Hello everyone

I have a 175 genoa and I'm having difficulties tacking; particularly when there's little wind, the sails gets caught every time. From old posts I gather that many in this list have shroud covers (e.g. PVC pipes), and that this helps with the tacking.

My question is, can I install these covers without taking down the mast, i.e. if I release the turnbuckles while the mast is up, will i be able to tighten them again? Is this true for all the shrouds?

Many thanks

José
