[Rhodes22-list] Water in the cockpit when motoring

So I had a great day sailing yesterday on the Chesapeake Bay. The boat
performed beautifully and, with a more experienced friend, we had the boat
heeled further than I had ever dared! The wind was perfect and we sailed
for about 1 1/2 hours out on one tack and returned home on one tack. That
had never happened to me before. But my question is about why water comes
up through the drain hole in the cockpit when motoring at top speed. It
only happens when I motor at top speed. It stops and all drains out when I
reduce to about half speed. I got the impression that I could put a fair
bit of water in the cockpit if I had continued motoring at that speed. I
wasn't in that much of a hurry, but I was curious to see how fast the boat
would go motoring.
