[Rhodes22-list] Water in the cockpit when motoring

I have taken a different approach.  I cemented approximately 3"- 4" of 3/4" (I think) CPVC pipe to a nipple.  The outside diameter of the nipple fits inside the cockpit drain fitting.  This setup raises the level the water needs to reach before it will go over the top of the pipe and enter the cockpit.  One feature of this setup is that if you forget to remove it after sailing, the rain water will only flood the cockpit until it reaches the top of the pipe.  You will need to be careful not to step on it, since that makes it difficult to remove.  Depending on the height that the cockpit floor was bonded to the hull, you can determine how high pipe needs to be to prevent seawater from entering. Don SimonsIthaca, NY

A standard marine drain plug can be inserted when you have extra crew in the cockpit.

Rick,

So the wide part of the door stopper would be right over the drain hole?  Is that correct?  I guess another solution is the find something to plug the drain hole in the cockpit.  Anyone else have a solution for this?  Is this going to happen even if not motoring if I bring 4 adults on the boat along with myself.

Susan,

Next time your boat is out of the water, glue a rubber door stopper in front of the drain hole--pointed end forward.  This will create a vacuum in the hole and you won't get water up the drain even with the fattest crew.
