Palatka Bob:  We are of the same ilk.  Sailing on San Diego Bay is just great.  We go for it at every opportunity.  We have sailed Capri 22’s on the Bay and out past Point Loma a mile or so.  We sailed there once when the Reagan was in port  along with a sister carrier.  The “Boys in the Chase Boats” (Coast Guard and Navy)  love to come roaring up to you any time they see that you are on a tack that will take you to the “trip line.”  We think they just like to goose the engines one in a while to get a thrill.  They generally just wave and zip around you.  

Like you say though, I’d much rather spend a night on the R22 than the Capri but I believe a fixed keel Capri Captained by an experienced crew would walk away from our beloved R22.  For me the ease of the IMF and the general comforts of the R22 are the sellers.  Why Stan is not selling them like “hot cakes”  is beyond me!  {:>)
