Susan, with the mast crane it will be a piece of cake. Especially with Joe's
help. Send us a few pics of your findings and I am sure we can walk you
through how to get her back working again. It can be done on the water as
others have mentioned. Just be sure to bring a few extra cotter rings. They
have tendency to go for a swim.

Cheers,
Ted

Everyone on the list has been so helpful. Thanks to all.

It's got some "idiomatic" characteristics: You need to make the rig fast to
the deck attachment forward of the tabernacle, then attach the aft lower
stays to the rig and use Stan's handy extenders (also in my tool kit) to
make the forward lower stays longer. Upper stays can remain in place. This
will give you enough space to get the mast down. It goes down aft. I can get
down there to give you a hand with it. Though I am uninformed about the
repair you may need.

bill) we can just pull the masthead over the dock and do what's needed.
("sounds" easy and simple) I am all booked up through Sunday. If you are
available early next week, we may be able to find a time that works. Let me
know. It's good to be a Rhodie.

to furl any of the sail back into the mast. It wouldn't budge. So I don't
think our problems were the same. I hope yours is more easily solved than
mine. Do you, by chance, have the mast lowering device that Stan sells. I
didn't get one with my boat and it looks like a mast lowering is in my
future.

Especially on the Elk River. My buddy and I (him at the tiller) had a very
hard time furling the main as well as the genny. I had no choice but to do
so in the wind. Even headed straight into the wind, the main was a bear to
furl, and I wasn't able to get it neatly into the mast. Once I got it in, I
tied it off still looking ugly. My jib looks likes a knotted up pair of
dirty socks. At least it doesn't smell bad.

really tough to get it in. I wonder if yours is simply bunched up in the
wrong places. It may correct itself if you go back to the boat on a calmer
day and try it again. Run it all the way out, to clear it, and all the way
in. I heard a couple of mysterious clunks today as well. Maybe it wasn't in
your IMF just a sound owing to a vigorous sail... or maybe we both had an
issue and are in for big repairs. Don't panic till you try it again. Let us
know how you make out. (Damn! the sailing was really great, though.)

knots (luckily with 2 friends) and there was a slight clunk from the area of
the mast so it seemed. We all heard it and looked around but nothing seemed
amiss. Then found that I could not furl the main. It seemed that the main
was sitting a bit lower in the slot than previously. I tried various
things, but nothing worked. Finally found a way to wrap up enough of the
main sail around the mast to stop any sail action and motored back to the
marina. And so it sits. Anyone have any idea what happened? Stan, if you
are reading this, I will be on the phone in the morning for advice. I just
hope this can be fixed without a long wait.
