The boats sure are pretty when they're new.  You've inspired me to give mine a heavy dose of elbow grease when the weather warms up a bit more.

I’m not sure what you saw, there’s no ‘crank’ on the boom.  There are two tangs (I think that’s the right word) on the end.  One is for the upper block of the main sheet, the other is for the topping lift.  That’s my best guess as to what you might have seen
