https://www.facebook.com/General-Boats-Rhodes-22-Sailboat-155705167787639/timeline
is a Facebook page not a group. As such, anything that you post to
the page (as someone who likes the page) is NOT likely to be seen by
any other person who likes the page UNLESS that person is also a
friend of yours on FB.

You will note that the posts by anyone other than the owner of the
page show up in the "Visitor posts" section on the left hand side of
the page. Posts by the owner of the page will show up on the wall of
the page and perhaps in the newsfeed of the people who like the page
but even there the chance is low.

On a good day posts that I make to a page I administer
(https://www.facebook.com/mainstayrockhall/) reach about 15-20% of
the people who like the page. Facebooks proprietary algorithms
determine who sees the posts made by a page.

Facebook groups are better. They can be open or closed. If someone
subscribes to a group, there is a good likelihood that they will see
the posts from the other members of the group. They do take a bit of
administration to keep out the spam and the trolls and of course
there are a lot of people who are uncomfortable with Facebook's
mining of their personal information and/or posting in such a
wide-open worldwide forum.

For our purposes - sharing info about our boats, I like the email
list a whole lot better and I would like it even more if we could see
who is sending a message. My second choice would be a threaded
bulletin board like the ones at the trailersailor.com. Phil Herring,
who runs all of the sailboatowners.com websites is a good guy.
Facebook would be a distant 3rd.

I'm so glad that John and MJM have kept us going all these years. And
thanks to Mike for giving us a new home.
