I did the same as Rick except that I used 1" aluminium square tubing then
used three stainless metal screws down through the seat into the tube. That
made the seats much more rigid.

Mine are reinforced by wood stringers that fit inside the bench edge lips.
The stringers are supported at both ends by plates attached to the cabin and
lazarette bulkheads, thus no interference with the storage under the
benches.
