I agree with Patrick - leave the motor in the up position on the bracket
and add a line to the aft rail for extra support. Have towed many Rhodes 22
miles like this and not had a problem. Besides you'll probably do more
damage to your motor trying to get in on/off the bracket

I prefer to strap the boat down on the trailer as well
