Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Agile launched

For those who might have harboured doubts that Agile would ever see water again - including my wife, friends family acquaintances and to be frank me at times, Agile is launched and floating at the same time.
Being on the hard since 2009, Agile was very frustrated with the pace of her restoration and in particular was getting quite cranky lately as we had two launchings that had to be aborted because the centerboard housing leaked.
For some reason a previous owner trimmed the flange on the cap leaving a narrow area for bolts. Finally, contrary to the best advice from this list to rely solely on the neoprene gasket to seal the join I was reduced to using sealant - for which I am embarrassed to admit. I did avoid anything with adhesive qualities and relied on narrow strips of butyl tape. It seems to be working, should not make removal too difficult and hopefully has not gummed up the pulleys that raise the centreboard. Seems ok so far.

I turned out to be a much bigger project than I anticipated when I started.
I thought I was just going to fix some deck delaminating and in the end rebuilt just about everything - several times over as it turned out. I made a lot of mistakes and soe were exceptionally time-consuming. But now I have a very pretty and much happier 1976 Rhodes 22 with a new lease on life.

I still have to do the rigging, traveller, and some galley details. I also need to make new cushions but that will wait for the winter months.

I have attached pictures when the boat was at its unhappiest and today. I think she is beginning to forgive me. I am sure you are all greatly relieved.

Graham
