Agree with throwing the tension gauge overboard.  Recall a story several years ago where one of our members used a loos gauge to tighten up the shrouds and almost drove his mast down through his cabin top.   Hand tighten is recommended. - Rob

If you are asking about the IMF rig, throw the tension gauge overboard.

The shrouds should be tightened by hand at the dock or mooring in a calm with both sails furled.

The forestay tension should be set when sailing using the tensioner between the backstays.  Fully tighten when close hauled and lighten up as you sail more broadly.
