Subject: [Rhodes22-list] cabin wood treatment

I was curious what (if any) type of care people use for the wood in the
cabin.  On my boat, the cabin wood was dry, faded, and chipping in places so
I used a combination of Howard Orange Oil, Howard Resto-a-Finish (Walnut),
and Howard Feed-N-Wax that I saw recommended online.  You can see the before
and after photos below.  The improvement to the table top was dramatic.
Looking back on this, I think it may been better to use a poly instead of
the wax for the last step.  I think I may try a wipe on poly at the end of
next season for more permanent protection.

Some of the wood was delaminating underneath on the edges, so I cut some
thin oak to fit underneath on the edges and bolted that on.  I also used an
epoxy mix to coat the edge where it was chipping on top.  Not a fancy
solution but I think it will stop the damage.  While I was at it, I
reinforced some of the parts that take a lot of weight by screwing on some
thin boards underneath.  It seems a bit sturdier now.

Are there any recommendations from the group on how you treat the wood in
the cabin to keep it in good condition?
