my first car had cloth in the center section of its steel roof. It 
leaked and I painted it and laid oil cloth on the wet paint. Worked til 
I could get a more recent model.  The foam flotation we mold, that forms 
the solid part of the V berth, is molded with an integral top and aft 
fiberglass shell.  The hinged luan (actually Russian birch these days) 
you refer to is not over the foam but rather over the open area where 
the water and holding tanks are located.  I know the boat you purchased 
had some owner associated incident I never saw so can't speak to it's 
particular interior but it was such a good deal and now is 30 years old, 
time for the latest of everything Rhodes.  We have this show boat with 
the latest of everything, you can have for . . .
