Hey Graham,
               One thought that came to me in my sleep. The Brass angle
bracket to receive the locking Pin was a mistake as is. Copper or any
copper alloys are not compatible with aluminum.   Best to use aluminum, or
SS .   Or cover the brass with a bit of clear 3/8 or 1/2 Inch hose.
