[Rhodes22-list] Rhodes in the Med (july/august)

Chris—really enjoyed your acct and pix of getting Enosis back in the water.
Makes me wish I enjoyed the hands-on work and problem-solving which seems
genetic with Rhodies, but alas I don’t, really. My father did, especially
with his heavier-than-water Bahamian sailing dinghy, so maybe that’s why I
don’t.

And, frankly, I enjoy it less each year I edge closer to disappearing like
Homer’s Odysseus. See Tennyson’s “The Lotus Eaters”:

“We have had enough of action, and of motion we,/Rolled to starboard,
rolled to larboard, when the surge was seething free,/ Where the wallowing
monster spouted his foam mountains in the sea….// Surely, surely, slumber
is more sweet than toil, the shore / Than labor in deep mid-ocean, wind and
wave and oar; / O rest ye brother Mariners, we will not wander more.”

I don’t agree, by any means, but I recognize the longing.

Watch out for that Cyclops: he’s nearsighted and stupid, but he’s very
hungry.
