[Rhodes22-list] Revisiting Deploying Anchor from Cockpit

Hi Mike,

I had a chance today to mount my anchor and release line.

I’m including some photos and one short video of me pulling the line to
release the anchor.

A block on the pulpit for the release line won’t work....not enough space
for the loop in the line to pull the anchor out of the bracket before
hitting the block. It turns out blocks really aren’t needed. I used small
eye straps to guide the line. One on the pulpit, one on the forward deck and
one toward the back near the cockpit bulkhead. It pulls very easily to
release the anchor. I tried the setup 10-12 times and it never failed.

I have about a 25’ fixed length of rode and chain which should be enough for
my very shallow lake. My main purpose of ever using the anchor is just bad
situations near shore or other boats where I need to quickly anchor to avoid
bigger problems.

I’m thinking of maybe just using a Velcro strap the hold my short coiled
rode onto the side of the pulpit which would just pull apart when I drop
anchor.

For those who need to have a variable length of rode, I guess you could run
the rode through your bow eye and then back to the cockpit where you could
let out what’s necessary and tie it off.
