[Rhodes22-list] What is the purpose of the ledge outside of the companionway?

Michael,

The centerboard pennant is usually stored on the ledge to avoid tripping
when entering and exiting the cabin.

During rougher sailing, the table leg will probably be rolling about the
cockpit, not particularly a good thing.

I'd rather be sailing :~)

Sorry for the newbie question, I'm still getting to know my new boat. I
have found that the cockpit table leg fits very nicely there, but is there
another purpose for it?
