Mike:
I had to do some major repair on my keel which developed very large cracks al along the bottom. Flakes of metal that I assume were lead were leaking out. I assume that this was added for ballast. I also repaired my centre boad and found solid lead at the tip. I have the original centerboard.
I didn't try replacing the lead from the keel. I did find gowever that both the keel and the centerboard had substantial voids in them which I attempted to fill with epoxy. Water getting into the core and freezing was the likely culprit causing the cracks.

I was able to fix it all and I am no expert.

Ouch! I wonder if there was a void there that contributed to the damage.
I’ve never delt with that bad of damage to the CB. I suspect it won’t be a
complicated fix when all is said and done. Good luck and take a few
“during” and “after” photos.
