Good catch. You mean the two 1.5 l bottles with their bottoms fastened
together in front of the approaching giant tsunami? The boat was in
Mexico when I met a German engineer who swore by it. The crumpled aluminum
foil is the reflector part. I ran it up on the flag halyard and had a
friend hit it with his radar. Then did the same with the standard
reflector. Liter bottle system was just as good. The engineer did state
that the crumpled foil configuration was a variable, so you should test
your product before relying on it. The liter bottle was my secondary
reflector, never can be too careful when sailing in PNW fog or night
sailing in More remote places like Mexico and busy places like the Med.
Even Florida can have thick fog in the spring.
