If there is, a more specific link would be useful. I can't find anything in the Reference Pages or archives that gives shroud/stay lengths for an IMF mast. Even if there were, I don't think I'd trust it enough to place an order without doing my own measurements. If this is not a problem, the length of the lower shrouds should be easily determined if you know the height of the attachment point on the mast and that should be obvious on a used mast. Just a thought. Will the benefits of the IMF justify the change, the work, and associated costs?? In my opinion, if you keep your boat in a slip or on a mooring ball, I say go for it. But if you keep it on a trailer and have to raise the mast and rig up every time, it might not be much more of a convenience (I actually enjoy the rigging up and raising sail part). But the ease of stepping onto the boat in a slip and just casting right off would be sweet. If you've already planned on spending a few hundred dollars extra, you might as well just replace the standing rigging too. I don't now if the mast lengths are the same for the IMF and standard masts; or if the spreaders are the same length. Maybe someone could provide the length of the mast, pin to pin measurements for the shrouds and stays and the length of the spreaders? If the mast lengths are the same and the spreader lengths are the same, I'm sure the shrouds and stays would be close. You would have to check the base fitting too. It appears the IMF may be wider than the 4"x3" standard mast extrusion. You'd also have to fabricate the boom attachment gooseneck car assembly. But there are plenty enough pictures on the site to make your own. If it were me, I'd have a few shroud extenders on hand, run the turn buckles all the way out and raise the mast using the standard rigging-- and go from there. I believe the old shrouds are still with the mast so I could try and measure them. (not sure if the boats are exactly the same) I did measure the masts and they seem identical in overall length. I also have the roller furling tube for the forestay but I haven't been able to find the bushings that the forestay goes through. The furling tube on the older boat has a slot in it and the jib slides up through the slot like a bolt rope. My 1990 furling tube is round and the jib slides over it like a sock. Any information you find I would love to hear about it! Thanks, Mitch I attached some images of the bushing at the top of roller furling tube. Over the years I have had to make several sets. The last, several years ago. This was done over in Spain so I don?t have the measurements. The technique involves using a drill press and a couple of hole saws. The material is a small piece of thick Starboard about 1 1/4? thick. Cut the first larger plug ( about 1/8? larger than the OD of the furling tube. Secure this plug and shave it down with a smaller holesaw slightly larger than the ID of the tube). Stop short by an 1/8 of an inch so you create a ?drum or plug ? with a lip. Slip a long 1/4? bolt through the hole and secure it with nuts and lock washers so it won?t spin. Attach to the drill mandrill and using a rasp/file/ abrasive bevel the shaft so the smaller end just slips easily into the tube part way down. The last step is to cut the plug lengthwise through the existing hole with a very fine band saw or I?ve used a fine jig saw blade with a minimal kerf. Since everything is set up, make a couple of spares, just remember where you put them when you need to replace them in a few years down the road/Rhode. Good luck. She was purchased by Joe Nador of Long Island, NY. I'm sure he will become a regular on The List. He's a great guy and very enthusiastic about owning a Rhodes22. He and his daughters are planning to cruise together this Summer and beyond. I know he will have plenty of questions for members of the Rhodes List. Please welcome him as I was welcomed by this great group of folks. Debbie and I miss our Rhodes already, but as I said, we have gone over to the "dark side" and have purchased a classic 1968 Trojan 42 Sea Voyager. If you end up scheduling your rendezvous on the Chesapeake, we will try to join you. I have some odds and ends parts, as well as a few R22 ball caps that I will post for sale separately. In many ways, though it is the Rhodes brought us all together, it is the kind of persons that make up the list that create the culture and community of this eclectic group. I do not have the connector for the Boom to mast fitting or for the Pop Top to Mast fitting. Mike thinks he has it so I?ll report back. I am totally unfamiliar with the IMF and because I have a Continental rig have always ignored posts pertaining to the? IMF. I working on purchasing a used sail. My first R22, 70"s vintage had to have the transom reinforced to cope with heavier motors and operation stresses. The '84 and each following year models, were actually made with Stan's close oversight. My '86, s/v MaryJane, was made at the GB plant. Stan, being a perfectionist, controlled every detail.?? So - watch transom strength.? Another potential weakness is in the deck loading of the mast by both mast weight and over-tightening of the stays. I have seen R22 fleet boats with a concave top deck which will be the result. Hand tightening is the rule of thumb. Mast weight of the IMF is much greater than the conventional. I would not put IMF on a Continental hull for this reason. Such sage advise ! As a footnote I am offering my '84 or my '86 this Spring. My '80 (namely ME) is also vintage according to my dear wife. I'm new to Rhodes22.org and wanted to introduce myself and ask a couple of questions.?? First off:? Hello.? I'm Peter Beckerman, a somewhat novice sailor and wannabe Rhodes 22 owner.? I have been looking at boats and saw one yesterday that I'm thinking about.? One problem with the boat is that one of the opening port lights has a broken latch.? It? took a hit (maybe when stowing the table top?) and the plastic that holds the screw sheered so that one half of the port cannot be screwed down and it leaks.? I don't see a replacement port light listed in the General Boats parts list, and was wondering if anyone knows where to go for a replacement and about what that might cost?? Also, is there an option for windows mounted flush to the outside?? Just looking at the design it seems like, since these windows are mounted at an angle, water would collect by the window seals and drip inside when the ports are opened.? Perhaps this isn't a problem in practice, but it looks like it would be.?? Also the trailer does not have a spare tire which I'd like to get.? Are these a standard trailer tire?? (I know nothing about trailers)? Is it easy enough to get a used rim?? Anyone have a source for spare wheel??? Lastly I spoke with one seller who has a Rhodes with no trailer. Anyone have a decent trailer they are looking to sell? Thanks ????? If you had a picture of the port and/or latch you could narrow it down. Some owners have replaced these open8ng ports with fixed, flush mount portlights; a reasonably easy job. The opening ports tend to collect water because they were not designed to be mounted on such a steep incline. Then any dirt or debris that gets on the gasket surface can cause them to leak. This is an easy fix or replacement and should not be a determining factor if buying the boat. Post a picture if you have one. I may have something in my parts bin. Plus Beckson's website has "Installation Instructions" for their windows, which was very helpful and the window was a close match to the old existing window. Hope this is helpful. Here is my description of the project: 7. Port Lite Re-Bedding Port lites are a common source for cabin leaks which lead to interior damage and headaches. There are almost as many instructions on replacing/rebedding a port lite as there are occurrences! (?Practical Sailor Magazine? has some great instructions online) I won?t go into the specific details of this operation, but a couple of things I learned. My lites had been rebedded with silicone sealer at some point. Again, there are pros and cons. One of the cons I can attest to is the removal of silicone residue. It?s a bitch! But I have found that Marine Formula by De-Bond Corporation will turn the residue of just about any sealant/adhesive, including polysulfides (5200), into a mush that can be easily removed with a putty knife, chisel or razor window scraper. Nonetheless, silicone sealant seems to be the best route due to its adhesiveness, flexibility and waterproof properties. It?s recommended by Beckson, the manufacturer. So that?s what I used. One other thing, do not tighten down completely on fresh silicone. Wait until it has skinned over, about 15-30 minutes before tightening down. Another thing I found out is that Acetone will ruin acrylic port lites! Don?t use it! Hope this helps and welcome to Rhodie Land! They will be on first come first served. They are $27.00 + $5.00 shipping (US only). If you want personalization on the side or rear, it's $15.00 extra. Depending on demand, this may be the last chance to order. The hats have been getting more expensive and would be $30.00 if I had to order them now with no personalization. I do not make money on these as I have taken on this project as a favor to The List. Cost of the hats and the stitching have increased substantially. Please email me directly with your order. I will send an Invoice from PayPal to complete and make payment with a credit card. Once payment is received by PayPal, your order will be completed and shipped. Let me know the following: Preferred color. Alternate color. (if you will accept the other) Quantity. Additional stitching, on side or on rear. One problem with the boat is that one of the opening port lights has a broken latch. It took a hit (maybe when stowing the table top?) and the plastic that holds the screw sheered so that one half of the port cannot be screwed down and it leaks. I don't see a replacement port light listed in the General Boats parts list, and was wondering if anyone knows where to go for a replacement and about what that might cost? Also, is there an option for windows mounted flush to the outside? Just looking at the design it seems like, since these windows are mounted at an angle, water would collect by the window seals and drip inside when the ports are opened. Perhaps this isn't a problem in practice, but it looks like it would be. Also the trailer does not have a spare tire which I'd like to get. Are these a standard trailer tire? (I know nothing about trailers) Is it easy enough to get a used rim? Anyone have a source for spare wheel? Lastly I spoke with one seller who has a Rhodes with no trailer. I didn't think to measure the spacing on the lugs and I can't access the trailer now.? When searching online I see rims that are listed as "5 on 41/2 inch". Does anybody know if that's the lug pattern on the Triad trailers?? Also, I see plenty of wheels with radial tires, and just a few bias ply.? I assume that I shouldn't drive with one bias and one radial, is that right?Lastly, bonus points if anyone knows the size wrench I need for the lug nuts. Thanks so much,????? Don't mix tires on your trailer. Make sure you use tires designated as trailer tires, either bias or radial. I would not advise replacing 1 tire. Worn or mismatched tires are the biggest cause of boat trailer accidents.?Joe DempseyEX-s/v RespiteDeltaville, VASent via the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G, an AT&T 5G smartphone -------- Original message --------From: peter beckerman via Rhodes22-list Date: 1/31/23 9:46 PM (GMT-05:00) To: rhodes22-list at rhodes22.org Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Trailer spare wheel Hi all,?? I'm trying to source a spare wheel/tire for a Triad trailer, and I don't really know what I'm doing.? I know that the tires on the trailer now are ST 225-75-d15, and the rim has 5 lugs.? I didn't think to measure the spacing on the lugs and I can't access the trailer now.? When searching online I see rims that are listed as "5 on 41/2 inch".
