[Rhodes22-list] IMF Mast and Sail

Ric,

You seem to express some reservations.

Will the benefits of the IMF justify the change, the work, and associated
costs?? In my opinion, if you keep your boat in a slip or on a mooring
ball, I say go for it. But if you keep it on a trailer and have to raise
the mast and rig up every time, it might not be much more of a convenience
(I actually enjoy the rigging up and raising sail part). But the ease of
stepping onto the boat in a slip and just casting right off would be sweet.

If you've already planned on spending a few hundred dollars extra, you
might as well just replace the standing rigging too.

I don't now if the mast lengths are the same for the IMF and standard
masts; or if the spreaders are the same length. Maybe someone could provide
the length of the mast, pin to pin measurements for the shrouds and stays
and the length of the spreaders? If the mast lengths are the same and the
spreader lengths are the same, I'm sure the shrouds and stays would be
close.

You would have to check the base fitting too. It appears the IMF may be
wider than the 4"x3" standard mast extrusion.
You'd also have to fabricate the boom attachment gooseneck car assembly.
But there are plenty enough pictures on the site to make your own.
If it were me, I'd have a few shroud extenders on hand, run the turn
buckles all the way out and raise the mast using the standard rigging-- and
go from there.
