[Rhodes22-list] IMF Mast and Sail

Guys,
Having produced many satisfied generations of the The R22 Boom Room, I can vouch for the logic of upgrade from the the earlier vintage Continental, primarily structure improvements. My first R22, 70"s vintage had to have the transom reinforced to cope with heavier motors and operation stresses. The '84 and each following year models, were actually made with Stan's close oversight. My '86, s/v MaryJane, was made at the GB plant. Stan, being a perfectionist, controlled every detail.
So - watch transom strength.
Another potential weakness is in the deck loading of the mast by both mast weight and over-tightening of the stays. I have seen R22 fleet boats with a concave top deck which will be the result. Hand tightening is the rule of thumb. Mast weight of the IMF is much greater than the conventional. I would not put IMF on a Continental hull for this reason.
Such sage advise !
As a footnote I am offering my '84 or my '86 this Spring. My '80 (namely ME) is also vintage according to my dear wife.
Best to you,
Art CzerwonkyAtlanta

If not - almost any trailer will do it - the boat is  gutted.
No hardware, no rigging, no interior.
It would definitely be a project.
If you do not rebuild your boat - I’m interested in parts.

PS would like to see a photo of the tree on the boat.
Hope the tree guy had insurance!
