I will finally be addressing my lower chainplate issues in April. For those of you who have had to patch your deck, is there a product that seems to match the Rhodes deck color most? I will have to cut out topside fiberglass and remove/repair some rotten core. For those of you that have reinforced/replaced the original tab chainplate with a stronger system attached to the cabin sides, what is the best material to use for the backing plate? Unless you are painting on concrete, I always put plywood under the legs to prevent the stands from sinking into the soil or blacktop. The boat stands should also come equipped with chains. You should use these to secure the top of the boat stands together. As you are lifting and lowering the boat, you may find several pieces of 4x6 wood are useful to use as cribbing to support a corner while you reposition the jack. Bottom paint is toxic. But that is no easy task, as there are a lot of SS ?-20 bolts with washers and nuts holding the cover down. I pulled mine put that way to address a crack in the trunk cover and to replace the c/b pennant line as well as to reconfigure and reinforce the block mountings on the c/b. That allowed me to paint the entire c/b and inside the trunk slot. I painted the entire c/b, both sides at once, by hanging it from a rafter in my garage. Other times, I have just blocked the boat and painted as much of the c/b and trunk as I could from below. The exception to this is if your boat is older; maybe 1975 or earlier, the c/b comes out from the bottom and there is no trunk cap in the cabin to remove. Todd T. A neighbor and I bought it about 3 years ago knowing it was somewhat of a project, needing extensive tlc. It turned into a complete interior rebuild with dry rot and termites into the stringers. The cockpit deck required new core and nonskid gel repair. We just about had her ready to sail when Ian floated her off the trailer breaking the centerboard and dinging the hull in several spots. That is when we encountered Mike Orla. We decided that after glass repair on the hull, we would not be able to match the red gelcoat. The solution was a new paint job. All of that and more took quite a while. Once we were able to get on the water, we found the motor was not dependable and repowered her. We are just now able to sail comfortably even though we still have some minor gelcoat repairs to finish and rewire the breaker panel. The galley rebuild and sole repairs are complete. That's a very brief rundown of our journey. She was previously named Crimson Cloud. New name is Perserverance. I have seen several Rhodes 22 hulls with very round puncture marks in the lower portions. If you insist on jacking the hull up, please distribute the weight over a large area using soft wood blocks. Instead, I use an A-frame made of a pair of through bolted 4x4x12s and a come-along to the from lifting hook. Make sure that the block behind the front hook is in good condition and that the nuts to the U-bolt are tight. Be sure to wear appropriate PPE when you are sanding and painting. Roger Pihlaja S/V Dynamic Equilibrium 1978. Currently the Rhodes 22 Parts Department is in the middle of physically moving and systematically inventorying many useful new and used Rhodes parts and related equipment, including sails, among many other items, large and small. Once that enormous process is complete, we hope to be able to provide better information about what we have in stock, costs, delivery options, etc. Ideally, that would also include a searchable list on the website. In the meantime, while we are working hard to locate, consolidate, and organize as much as we can, please direct your specific requests to Stan's old email address stan at generalboats.com and we may be able to help. Please be patient during this transition. We are all volunteers with otherwise busy lives. Spring is coming. Happy sailing!
