Cary,

Peter must be on vacation.

Peter has a video showing how to replace the mainsail furling line on his
YouTube channel; s/v Silverheels.

I think this is the part you are talking about, and yes, you will likely
have to lower the mast.

While in the video he does not disassemble the unit into parts, you can get
a good idea of how it is constructed.
